A Modern Approach to Stewardship
Farallon Geographics is thrilled to attend the official launch of Historic England’s implementation of Arches, an innovative web-based platform which promises to comprehensively enhance the stewardship of England’s cultural heritage resources. Developed in collaboration with Historic England and the Getty Conservation Institute, Arches for HERs is a state-of-the-art, open-source data management, discovery, and visualization application that will support professionals and organizations in heritage management.
Arches for HERs is used by the Greater London Archaeology Advisory Service (GLAAS), Historic England’s lead organization for managing the Historic Environment Records of London. With the formal launch of Arches for HERs, any organization in the United Kingdom tasked with managing an HER may use Arches for HERs free of charge.
Arches for HERs offers key features including:
- Data Management: A centralized system for recording and accessing semantically-defined information about England’s cultural heritage resources.
- Geospatial Tools: Advanced mapping capabilities for representing the location and extent of cultural heritage resources and visualizing the significance and locations of heritage assets.
- Collaborative Framework: Facilitates cooperation among local authorities, developers, researchers, and heritage professionals to ensure comprehensive data sharing.
- Public Accessibility: A commitment to making vital heritage information available to the public, fostering greater awareness and appreciation of historic sites.
