“Break down GIS information silos using Acrobat 9” - Adobe eSeminar presented by Farallon available on-demand

Geospatial and mapping data is critical to decision making, asset management, and resource allocation at all levels of business and government. However traditional GIS tools are too expensive, too technical and too time-consuming for use by field staff and non-GIS users. Acrobat 9 provides a platform- and application-independent solution to this problem. With simple to use tools for creating geospatial PDF documents from professional GIS software, and extremely simple and intuitive workflows using Acrobat 9 for analysis and markup in the field, it is now possible to reliably communicate geospatial information and mapping capabilities to anyone, regardless of their GIS expertise.

Tomas Lopes from Farallon Geographics explains how easy it is for GIS professionals to share geospatial information and facilitate data maintenance workflows with individuals in the field by combining Acrobat 9 with professional desktop GIS software.

The presentation by Farallon covers:

  • How GIS professionals can create full-featured map layouts with attributes, labels and layers in ESRI’s ArcMap and use TerraGo Publisher to export them to a geo-registered, portable PDF.
  • Ways to use these PDF maps in the field, including querying the spatial data (e.g. find coordinates of a location or accurately measure distance, perimeter and area) and creating spatially intelligent markup using the tools in Acrobat 9.
  • How GIS staff in the office can roll field markups within a PDF map back into the enterprise quickly and efficiently.
