Parsons-UXB Joint Venture on Kaho’olawe Island Reserve Demilitarization GIS

Challenge
Farallon worked with Parsons-UXB to develop an online mapping system that managed the cleanup of unexploded ordnance (UXO) on the small Hawaiian island of Kaho'olawe.
Solution
Using a web interface, users who click on a grid square get a summary of information at a glance, while those who click on a piece of UXO get information and photographs about that item including GPS coordinates and images depicting everything from vegetation to the destruction date, as well as proximity to historically signficant Hawaiian sites and artifacts. Fairfield Suisun Sewer District Water Utility Enterprise GIS and RDBMS
Challenge
Fairfield Suisun Sewer District (FSSD) needed to expand their existing GIS for utility pipeline management, to integrate with and be of use to other departments.
Solution
Farallon developed a business case for a complete enterprise GIS, including the development of technology, geodata, workflows, a web portal, and staffing plans. Implementation included a water utility data model, a populated geodatabase (using ArcSDE and ArcGIS), and specific GIS workflows designed to ensure that FSSD's network administrators and GIS staff were comfortable managing the enterprise GIS. A geospatial web portal integrated other District business units, consolidating specific GIS applications (such as property review and notification), metadata, workflows, and standards into a single, web-based environment, available to all staff. California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection for Emergency Response
Challenge
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF) is the first responder for incidents within California's wild lands, as well as for many rural counties and cities within California. Yet CDF did not have a computer aided dispatch (CAD) system.
Solution
Farallon implemented a statewide GIS data model for CDF to manage streets, response zones, and other important emergency response information. Farallon worked with CDF and their CAD vendor to create the accurate and valid GIS data necessary to power the e911 CAD system. Read more details...

California Highway Patrol E-911 Enterprise GIS
Challenge
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is the Primary Call Answering Point for all cellular phone emergency 911 calls in the state of California. They needed to define a strategic plan to keep their Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system data up-to-date.
Solution
Farallon developed a GIS Strategic Business Plan that provided CHP with a flexible enterprise GIS structure to support multiple departments and business processes including their CAD 911 emergency response for a portion of California. Read more details...

City of Fairfield Enterprise Geodatabase and Master Address Development

Challenge
The City of Fairfield (Fairfield) faced several challenges in building a functional Enterprise GIS. Fairfield had fragmented, disparate technologies and limited communication with potential external GIS partners. Fairfield needed an enterprise-wide strategic GIS designed to meet the needs of all its stakeholders.
Solution
Farallon recommended that Fairfield develop an enterprise geodatabase using ESRI's ArcSDE software and Microsoft's SQL Server database. From this, Farallon built a variety of GIS applications that support business functions of the city and it various departments, including a geospatial portal that allows all city staff to quickly create notification lists and summary reports for any property within the city. City of Walnut Creek - GIS and General Plan Mapping, Formatting, and Layout Support
Challenge
The City of Walnut Creek was on a tight deadline to update their General Plan and needed to generate a large number of maps from their GIS. They also wanted a solution and the necessary training to allow their non-technical staff to use the GIS as a tool for map production in future analyses.
Solution
Farallon assessed the existing GIS and provided production services for the required maps. Farallon helped create GIS templates, documentation, and workflow training so that the City staff could develop maps without depending upon GIS specialists. Read more details...

Web-based Seismic Hazards Mapping for the California Department of Conservation

Challenge
The California Division of Mines and Geology (DMG) captures and compiles statewide geologic, and geo-hazard data. They wanted a user-friendly method for cities and counties to access information about and plan for seismic hazard zones.
Solution
Farallon designed and implemented a web-based application, the Seismic Hazards Mapping Program that allows DMG users (county and local governments, consultants, and researchers) to view, manage, and download seismic data presented as maps, images and tabular geospatial information. San Mateo County Assessor/County Clerk/Recorder Business Process Analysis
Challenge
San Mateo County's Clerk-Assessor-Recorder-Elections department (CARE) processes and records most of the information that is input into the County's system. Since most of the recorded information supports spatial processes, CARE wanted a way to improve the recording procedure and understand how it could be extended to support other County processes using a central Oracle database and the County's spatial data.
Solution
After a thorough needs assessment of the current County processes, Farallon created an implementation plan that when executed would improve the County's revenue collection timeframe and ability to forecast annual revenue streams. Read more details...

Kinder Morgan Energy Partners Liquid Fuel Pipeline Control Center Emergency Response GIS

Challenge
Kinder Morgan Energy Partners (KMEP) is the nation's largest liquid fuel pipeline transmission company. Long sections of KMEP's most vital pipeline sections run along railroad rights-of-way. When a trail derails, KMEP must quickly determine whether the pipeline network has been compromised, where the nearest shut-off valves are, and how to get inspection and repair crews to the accident scene.
Solution
Farallon created an ArcSDE geodatabase in Oracle with a web interface that tracks over 3000 miles of railroad and pipeline GIS data, 30,000,000 street segments nation wide. It allows KMEP staff instant and intuitive access to the entire Pacific Region pipeline network faciltating the process of locating a leak and executing a response. With this integral tool KMEP can react within seconds, rather than hours. Read more details...
