Case Studies on Pavement Management
City of San Mateo Master Address Database

Challenge
Addresses are a key dataset used by the City of San Mateo to provide essential services. No single complete, accurate, and current address list existed within the City that could be used as the authoritative list of business and residential locations. This limited the ability for City departments to coordinate efforts and integrate information across business systems.
Solution
Farallon designed and deployed a Master Address Database (MAD) as a central authoritative service for all City departments. The MAD offers increased data availability, reduced errors and maintenance, elimination of duplicate data, and enhanced City services. Read more details...

City of Chula Vista uses dynamic segmentation to render StreetSaver information to the GIS
Challenge
The City of Chula Vista wanted the information in their ArcSDE GIS to be shared with a StreetSaver database.
Solution
Tools in ESRI's ArcGIS were used to develop dynamic segmentation procedures to render StreetSaver information to the GIS. The segmentation of the streets into paving sections is done dynamically using the StreetSaver database post mile data at the time the user requests the information so the two datasets remain in sync. GIS PavePlan Application Helps San Mateo County Manage Pavement Conditions

Challenge
San Mateo County manages over $100 million of infrastructure assets such as roads and sewer infrastructure. Pulling together information from separate GIS, pavement management software and budgeting spreadsheets was time consuming. It could take up to three months for a decision, such as asphalt resurfacing, to be agreed upon by all departments.
Solution
Farallon Geographics developed the GIS PavePlan application which automates data interchange between their cost modeling application, GIS database, and pavement scenario manager. Read more details...

City of City of Menlo Park integrates ESRI GIS with StreetSaver PMS
Challenge
The City of Menlo Park wanted the their Enterprise GIS (ArcSDE/ArcGIS/SQL) data to be dynamically shared with a StreetSaver pavement management database with live links between the two.
Solution
Farallon integrated MTC's StreetSaver v.8 pavement management software with ESRI's ArcSDE/ArcGIS software on an enterprise SQL Server database and defined a new data model, linking procedures, and database views to provide a live-link between the PMS and GIS systems over 60 miles of streets. City of Santa Rosa GIS/PMS integration
Challenge
The City of Santa Rosa wanted to integrate their pavement management system with their enterprise GIS and provide live-links between the two systems.
Solution
Farallon integrated MTC's StreetSaver v.8 pavement management software with ESRI's ArcSDE/ArcGIS software on an enterprise SQL Server database and defined a new data model, linking procedures, and database views to provide a live-link between the PMS and GIS systems over 542 miles of streets. MTC Streetsaver PMS-GIS scalable web application

Challenge
Sonoma County had worked with Farallon to integrate their GIS with MTC StreetSaver pavement management system (PMS). MTC wanted to make this integrated GIS-PMS solution more widely accessible and asked Farallon to create a web-based implementation that would be used by Sonoma County and then extended to other Bay Area jurisdictions.
Solution
Farallon designed and deployed a custom web-based application which displays Streetsaver tabular reports along with a map highlighting corresponding street sections. The web-services XML based application will readily scale to accommodate other Bay Area counties and completely new applications. Read more details...

Sonoma County’s GIS Pavement Management System with Real-Time Scenario and Maintenance Analysis

Challenge
Sonoma County Public Works is responsible for maintaining 1,400 miles of roads. To display road maintenance conditions, County managers printed out hard copy maps from their GIS and then manually highlighted problem areas that were identified using MTC's Streetsaver pavement management software.
Solution
Farallon worked with the County to implement an integrated GIS pavement management system (PMS) that dynamically segments street data into pavement sections. Visual displays are now always in sync with the PMS data and can be used for real-time scenario and maintenance analysis.

County of San Mateo Linear Referencing System (LSR) for PMS to GIS integration
Challenge
The County of San Mateo wanted their PMS database to be linked to their Intergraph-based GIS centerlines.
Solution
Farallon helped the County to develop an LRS and programmed their Oracle geodatabase to support a dynamic GIS/PMS link through linear referencing and dynamic segmentation. Read more details...
