Challenge
A California legal firm was representing a buyer of a large parcel of real estate located in rural California. However, there was a dispute with the seller over representations made by the seller regarding the property. The court moved the jurisdiction of the case to San Francisco in order to find unbiased jurors. The attorneys for the buyer wanted to find an easy way for the urban San Francisco jury to visualize the size of the property.

Solution
The buyer’s legal firm engaged Farallon Geographics to create a hardcopy map as an evidence exhibit for the jury. Farallon used publicly available parcel data from the county where the property was located and selected the relevant areas. Then an outline of the property was made using Intergraph GeoMedia. The outline was then overlaid on a Google Earth orthophotograph of the City of San Francisco to show the property size in relationship to the size of San Francisco. This was presented to the jury during the trial in a poster format, which allowed the jury to easily conceptualize the size of the property.
