Challenge

Colliers International, a leading global real estate services firm, needed to enhance the procedures that it uses to manage and standardize the site data collection efforts for Citibank locations. Colliers staff used Excel spreadsheets to track bank branch locations data. This approach had the potential for incomplete or inconsistent data, and made it very difficult to search and compare information about specific locations or transaction comparables.

Solution

Colliers engaged Farallon to develop a web-based application capable of streamlining the data collection and location mapping effort for Citibank branch offices. Farallon built a geodatabase using PostgreSQL Open Source relational database software integrated with a query and mapping interface using OpenLayers and Google Maps. The database tracks numerous competitive factors including existing bank sites, proposed bank sites, competing bank sites, as well as other relevant siting factors such as nearby hospitals, universities, and train stations. To evaluate and enter a new bank location, users simply click on a map and enter the information associated with the bank. Colliers’ staff can also manage existing Citibank properties, enter and update information for potential bank locations, and track the location of competing banks.

The application provides a consistent means for recording and editing information associated with Citibank bank branches. It also ensures secure, password protected access to data editing tools. Colliers’ staff can now access Citibank data in a fast and intuitive manner using any standard web browser.
