Pavement Management Case Studies
Sonoma County’s GIS Pavement Management System with Real-Time Scenario and Maintenance Analysis
Challenge
Sonoma County Public Works is responsible for maintaining 1,400 miles of roads. To display road maintenance conditions, County managers printed out hard copy maps from their GIS and then manually highlighted problem areas that were identified using MTC's Streetsaver pavement management software.
Solution
Farallon worked with the County to implement an integrated GIS pavement management system (PMS) that dynamically segments street data into pavement sections. Visual displays are now always in sync with the PMS data and can be used for real-time scenario and maintenance analysis.
San Mateo County Enterprise GIS
Challenge
The County of San Mateo had developed its GIS capabilities over time, resulting in many departmental GIS implementations that operated autonomously and independently. This organizational approach to GIS led to the duplication of important framework geospatial datasets resulting in undesirable data redundancy, data inconsistency, and unnecessary duplication of effort.
Solution
Farallon developed a GIS Utility and departmental governance structure, as well as an enterprise collaboration model developed through interviews with departments and County management. Once the Enterprise GIS was implemented, Farallon developed a GIS web-based portal as well as other web-based applications requiring GIS data, including notification and asset management.
County of San Mateo Linear Referencing System (LSR) for PMS to GIS integration
Challenge
The County of San Mateo wanted their PMS database to be linked to their Intergraph-based GIS centerlines.
Solution
Farallon helped the County to develop an LRS and programmed their Oracle geodatabase to support a dynamic GIS/PMS link through linear referencing and dynamic segmentation.
